Ibadan - The Oyo State Police Command on Monday
said it had arrested eight persons for allegedly
disrupting the campaign of Accord Party (AP) on
Sunday at Ode-Ige, Odinjo, Ibadan.
The Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Katsina, told
newsmen in Ibadan that policemen arrested the
suspected thugs led by Yussuf Ogeoju, alias Ese Water,
while committing the act.
Katsina said Ogeoju, who had been on the wanted list of
the police, however, died at an undisclosed hospital, due
to injuries he sustained from sporadic gunshots at the
rally.
He warned supporters of political parties against taking
law into their hands.
"I am warning politicians that Oyo State can never be
turned into a theatre of crime,” he said.
The commissioner also warned politicians to always
seek police permission before holding rallies or meetings
to ensure proper provision of security.
“Any political rally or meeting organised without police
permit, the organisers will have themselves to blame, no
matter how highly placed they are,” he said.
